This journal is friends only at the moment. Just comment if you would like to be added. All posts after 8/19/07 will be unlocked, but let me know if you want to be added to read my older stuff.

Also, if you are looking for my list of Snape/Harry fics that include any or all of Harry's canon children (James, Albus Severus, or Lily), you can find it here. If you have any additions to the list, please comment. A link would be wonderful, but just a title and author is fine. ;D

*Glee* [Jul. 2nd, 2008|06:57 pm]
Yes, I know, let the mass de-friending begin, but this makes me so very, very happy. I really wish I had more refined taste. Alas, no. ;D

And in more news of things that make me happy, although I'm sick with a summer cold that has completely wiped me out and I feel as limp as a dishrag, I have been very excited about the bidding going on over at [info]livelongnmarry. It's inspiring to see the outpouring of love and support in every offering and the excitement in every bid that's posted. *This* is what I love about fandom. People are offering to help in any way they can. There is something for everyone there in all price ranges. And people who aren't in a position to bid have been contributing to the cause with offers of their own. It feels good to do something so positive and uplifting.

I understand that some people are worried about drawing too much attention to fandom, but there are offers for jewelry, original fiction, baked goods, care packages, and tons of other non-fandom related items. And the offers just keep on coming. It's been such a pleasure to watch all the excitement even if I can barely keep my eyes open.

Theme List Update... [Jun. 26th, 2008|09:26 am]
My list of Snape/Harry fics that include any or all of Harry's canon children (James, Albus Severus, or Lily) has been updated as of 6/23/08. If you have any additions to the list, please comment. A link would be wonderful, but just a title and author is fine.

Also, I will be at a wedding in NYC until next week doing aunt-like things that, unfortunately, do not include reading porn. Try not to break the internets while I'm gone. ;D

Flist Reading Habits Poll... [Jun. 24th, 2008|06:37 pm]
I was discussing filters and personal vs fic journals with a friend the other day and that starting me thinking. As I say on my profile page, I enjoy reading all types of journals whether people primarily post fics, art, memes, recipes, snippets of your RL, or pictures of your pets. I read every journal on my f-list and I often have to restrain myself from commenting on every post. So, I suppose while I can understand offering to put people on filters tailored to their interests, I generally believe that I post infrequently enough so that if someone sees an occassional post of mine that doesn't interest them, they can use that scroll bar and move right on to the the next person on their flist.

But, it does make me curious about how each of you read your flist. So, I created a poll about how your read your flist and what you like to see on it.

Calloused. Heartless. Exuberant. You carry the heavy burden of informing children that they are adopted by jumping out of their birthday cake. A difficult task, but somebody must break the news to children on their only day of happiness.

Poll........................... [Jun. 4th, 2008|07:11 pm]
Yesterday I made a post asking the question, "is there anything that makes you unable to finish an otherwise engaging story?" Well, [info]snowpuppies developed a poll based on the replies to this question which you can find here on LJ or here on IJ. The discussion here has slowed down a bit but is still on-going. However, if you prefer to express yourself via ticky, you might want to check it out.

OMG! Commission Art by Lizard and GIP.............................. [Jun. 3rd, 2008|08:22 pm]
Back in 2004 I commissioned the lovely and amazingly talented [info]lizardspots to draw some Snape/Harry art. At the time I requested Harry to be, well, let's just say, under age 18. Now, four years later I requested the same piece but with some minor changes including a slightly older Harry. You can see the original Here Warning: Chan

And the updated art can be found on Lizard's journal here. The image is work safe but features cuddling.

Annnnnnnnd.....during strikethrough I had to retire my original default icon original default icon But with the new changes to LJ it may be making a return along with the new updated icon updated icon. *SQUEE* Aren't they fabulous? Go tell Lizard how much you love them!

Question............ [Jun. 3rd, 2008|03:47 am]
I was reading a brilliantly crafted story today filled with drama and intrigue and amazing characterization and was thoroughly enjoying immersing myself into the experience until the author did something that threw me completely out of the story. I was a bit rattled, but continued to read until it happened again. And again. And yet again and again until I finally decided that there was no way for me to get back into the rhythm of the fic and ended up just skimming through the story to get to the end.

And it made me wonder, is there anything that makes you unable to finish an otherwise engaging story? I know some people have mentioned SPaG errors or author's notes inserted in the body of the story, but I was curious if there are any other things that either cause you to hit the back button or just skim through the story rather than give it a more thorough reading.

Art and RL............ [May. 30th, 2008|05:44 pm]
Ah, yes. Just in case there was ever any doubt that those Snarry-colored glasses I wear are prescription strength, I thought I should let you see the image that came to mind while listening to some Disney show tunes.

You Learn Something New Every Day......... [May. 16th, 2008|03:38 pm]
And here you probably thought you knew what was responsible for the lion's share of global warming. Unsurprisingly, a new study points its bony fingers at us fatties. Why am I not surprised?

[info]snarry_games Fic Rec: [May. 15th, 2008|04:09 am]
Although you can't really go wrong with any of the fics at the [info]snarry_games, if you really must pick and choose only a few, you cannot go wrong by reading "Act Five: Deconstruction of an Architect" by [info]dacro. It is probably the most inspirational, uplifting fic I have read in ages. And considering the high quality of the fics I have been reading lately, that is saying something. Run, don't walk, to the [info]snarry_games and give this one a go. It's only 8,500 perfectly chosen words long. Please take note of the warnings before you read.

Summary: A reporter once asked of me, ‘Sir. If the most notable moments of your life were to be documented for the stage, how many acts would there be, and what would they be called?’ I was of a mind to ignore him, and yet an answer came to my lips—much to my surprise. “Four acts—in no certain order: Death of a Father, Death of a Servant, The Bridge, and The Arrival of the Boy." There is also this movement, a fifth and final act that I neglected to share with him. It has no title as of yet.

Please read, vote, and comment. I may have discovered this a bit late, but, to quote G. B. Stern, "Silent gratitude isn't much use to anyone."

Thoughts on Canon Compliance...... [Apr. 30th, 2008|05:00 pm]
I was chatting with someone last night and the discussion turned to canon compliance. I mentioned that I've been surprised lately by my desire for epilogue compliant fics since canon compliance never really used to be an issue for me. And I finally realized that it isn't the canon that's the issue for me, it's Harry's age. At the end of DH Harry is finally close to my own age.

Some Things I Do While Waiting on the Next Snarry Games Post..... [Apr. 28th, 2008|12:34 am]
My husband and I love theater. We don't get to see nearly enough professional productions, but we support community theater and local high school productions. Today we had the opportunity to see the musical, "My Fair Lady." I thought I'd share our conversation.

Some Reflections of the Snarry Games....... [Apr. 26th, 2008|01:17 pm]
Make no mistake, I love the games. It is the only fest where I will always read every word of every entry regardless of warnings, length, or author. And I always vote, though almost never comment at the games. I am wildly emotional and prefer to comment directly to an author rather than post my thoughts for everyone to see at the fest itself. And I typically will wait until the games are over and the author posts the fic on their personal journal. It’s just another of my many, many quirks.

There are so many things to love about the games - the re-inventing of the Snarry pairing, the diversity of the prompts, the high quality of the stories and art. But what I love most is how the games help me learn more about myself as a reader and as a Snarry fan. They make me examine pre-conceived ideas and help clarify for me what draws me to the pairing and what keeps me invested after five years and a closed canon. If you aren’t reading the games, if you’ve become disillusioned after Deathly Hallows, if you think there’s nothing new or exciting to write about this pairing, or if you’ve moved on to another fandom, I encourage you to take some time to check out the offerings this year. You may just find yourself falling in love with Snarry all over again.

Hump Day Smut Art: "Idiot Boy" [Apr. 24th, 2008|12:36 pm]
My art for Smut Wednesday was posted yesterday. The prompt was "Ginny Weasley" but somehow I suspect there may be one or two people on this list who might be interested. *cough* All the art is amazing so you should click the first link to see all the art. But if you just want to see mine (um, I'm not sure that came out the way I intended....), it's posted behind the cut.

Artist: [info]accioslash
Title: Idiot Boy
Characters: Harry, Ginny, implied Snape
Warnings: Implied het, breasts
Notes: This is the only way I could imagine that Harry managed to father three children with Ginny.

A Poll and a Bit of Discussion....... [Apr. 22nd, 2008|09:54 pm]
As some of you may be aware, even though I'm officially retired, I'm a licensed social worker and a licensed professional counselor. What this means is that to maintain these licenses I need to obtain a specific number of training hours in my field every year. Today I attended an absolutely amazing training on suggestibility during the process of forensic interviewing of children during child sexual assault cases. The class was taught by a woman who graduated high school the same year as I did. And even though the school was not large and I certainly knew her, I don't think we were in any classes together. And, even if we had been, high school was a very long time ago for both of us. We were never employed by the same agency at any point in our professional careers and we are colleagues in only the loosest sense of the word. In other words, despite the fact that social workers tend to be rather superficially engaging with a number of people, she and I are not friends.

In any event, during the years I worked in child welfare I developed a large number of trainings for foster and adoptive parents and had a special interest in working with child sexual abuse victims. In fact, the trainer was actually using some of the material I developed (with credit though not permission which in truth she didn't need because since I developed it while working for a public agency, I don't actually own any of the material), which was very flattering. However, during the course of the training she discovered that I was retired. And she called me to task repeatedly for leaving a profession where someone with my skill level was so desperately needed. So I'm curious:

There's A New Man in My Life........ [Apr. 9th, 2008|01:15 am]
No, this isn't about a new fandom or even a very late April Fool's joke. Al, my wonderful husband, bought me a cat for my birthday! Not quite the houseboy I had in mind, but still....;D He was a shelter cat and really reminded me of Little Orphan Annie from the stage production. This guy was not going to let us leave without him. He's very friendly, curious, and gentle. The vet estimates he is around 5-7 years old. The other cats are. not. pleased. but they will adjust. There are pictures behind the cut.

Happy Birthday to Meeeee! Means Art for You..... [Apr. 6th, 2008|12:00 am]
I've always liked the idea that people give gifts on their birthday as well as receive them. Several years back [info]thetreacletart did a birthday post where, since she was 32 at the time, she listed 32 things she liked about fandom. I thought it was a brilliant idea and immediately stole and bastardized the idea and decided to list 41 of my favorite fics for my own birthday as my gift to fandom.

Last year I decided to list 44 of my favorite Snarry quotes. This year I decided that since I really can't imagine making 45 caricatures of Harry Potter characters in less than 1837486976757 years I would instead draw the one request I have received 45 times (all from [info]tripperfunster). Yes, below the cut is naked!Snape. It is not work safe unless you work somewhere really, really cool.

Title: You're Not a Genie, Potter
Rating: Well, there is a penis so I suppose R.
Warnings: The aforementioned penis. Also a distinct lack of shrinkage I should hope think.
Notes: I did have help from an art beta who agreed to help me on the condition that we never speak of it ever, ever again. Mmmmblackmail. *glee*
